The Immersive Collection marks MUTEK’s beginnings as a producer and publisher in the developing XR art market. Five artists and longtime collaborators of the Festival step up to the challenge of creating in virtual reality, giving new life to outstanding audiovisual performances presented in previous editions. In keeping with MUTEK's characteristic approach to programming, the artists deliver an eclectic yet coherent collection of works featuring: Entanglement by France Jobin and Markus Heckmann, a radiant experiment at the crossroads of art and quantum physics; House of Moiré by Chloe Alexandra Thompson and Matthew Edwards (aesthetic.stalemate), an invitation to enter a space of escapism and transforming architecture; and Immortelle by Line Katcho, a dynamic and cathartic work that illustrates the highs and lows of emotional endurance. In this discussion moderated by Claudine Hubert, Culture Director at Thinkwell, these creators reflect on the taming of a new medium through experimentation, the discovery of its possibilities and constraints, and its implications for their practice. They also touch on the challenges of navigating the XR industry, and the support MUTEK has provided them in this regard.
