PANEL: Enter the Musicverse – What’s Next for Music in Web3

The metaverse, web3, NFTs, DAOs, and social tokens have dominated almost every music conversation, but what do all these things actually mean? An increasing number of artists are turning to web3—a new type of blockchain-based Internet that aims to decentralize power from big tech companies—as a fresh path to building community, reaching fans, and generating income. This panel addresses the various ways web3 is unlocking innovation within marketing, monetization, and distribution for the music industry at large. Panelists include Matthew Chaim, creator of Songcamp — a space for web3-curious musicians to explore these nascent technologies together; Athena Yasaman, Head of Music Discovery at blockchain-powered music platform Catalog; and Cora Novoa, a music producer and researcher who works at the intersection of art and technology, and serves as the creative director of her own record label, SEEKING THE VELVET. The conversation will be moderated by creative producer and music journalist Sarah Mackenzie.
